A safety training matrix is a grid of people against courses, and the number the safety manager wants from it is not the grid but three figures read off it: how many required holdings are missing today, how many will lapse in the next ninety days, and what compliance looks like then if nothing is booked. This builder works those from what you type, the headcount, the courses required per person on average, the share held in date and the share expiring, and prints the sessions to book and the hours to deliver in the quarter, because a matrix without a booking plan is a picture of the problem.
The cells are people times required courses, not people times all courses
Forty-eight people and twelve courses is not 576 cells; most people need seven of the twelve, so the matrix has about 336 required cells and the rest are blank. The builder takes the average required per person so the compliance percentage is worked on the cells that matter, which is the figure an auditor computes, rather than on a grid that counts a forklift course against the receptionist.
Compliance in ninety days is the number that changes behaviour
Eighty-two percent today reads as acceptable; the same matrix with fifteen percent of holdings expiring in the quarter is heading for about seventy, and the builder prints that figure. It is the one to put in front of the site manager, because it turns a compliance report into a booking list with a deadline on it.
Sessions to book and hours to deliver are the plan
Gaps plus expiries is the sessions the quarter has to close, and times the hours per course it is the trainer and room time to find. On the worked example it is over a hundred sessions and more than two hundred hours, which is a real claim on a quarter and the reason the matrix is worked at the start of it and not at the audit. Where does the share expiring come from?
From your records: the holdings whose expiry date falls in the next ninety days, divided by the holdings in date. On a spreadsheet matrix it is a filter on the expiry column; in Pro it is read from the records and printed on the dashboard.
Can I use this for one role or one site?
Yes. Set the headcount and the courses to the role's or the site's and the builder works that matrix alone. Pro keeps a matrix per site read from the same records, so the site manager sees their own figures and the company sees the total.
